[action for the Goldenrod Rocket Base]
[Anyone currently at the training grounds in the Goldenrod base during the afternoon may be startled by a yell of pain ringing through the area. Depending on your timing, finding the source of it may also result in seeing Rideaux angrily kick a tiny Deino across the field as he holds his left hand.]
Why you little--!
[He glares hatefully at the little dinosaur-looking Dragon type as it recovers from the kick, staggering to its feet. It immediately begins to charge in the direction it heard that voice. Rideaux isn't having any of that.]
Pin it down, Slasher!
[Slasher would be his Zangoose, who seems to have been present while Rideaux attempted to train this Deino. He nods, rushing over to intercept the Deino on its path. With a swift movement, he slams the Deino to the ground, pinning both its torso and head so it can't try to snap at him.
Rideaux closes in, still holding onto his hand- while it's not too visible since his current gloves are red, there's a big stain of blood seeping through the fabric where his own Pokemon bit him. He crouches over the Pokemon, gritting his teeth like he's doing his best to hold back his rage.]
This is completely unacceptable. I didn't take you under my wing to deal with this!
[And it just goes on like this, with Rideaux attempting to train this damn dragon without it trying to bite him.
...so yeah, walking in at any time to Rideaux yelling at his blind dragon is a safe bet. At least until he gives up for the day.]
[video]
[While Rideaux is never the cheeriest person when on camera, he at least appears pleasant enough. Today however is a completely different story. He's located at a desk in a nondescript room, slipping on his gloves at the moment the 'Gear starts recording. Bandages adorn one of his hands, and he looks pretty damn pissed off about it as he hastily slides the glove on to cover it.]
I have a bit of a dilemma. Does anyone here have any advice for dealing with a blind monster? Admittedly this is a new venture for me, and I suppose I wasn't expecting it to be as bad as it truly is. My monster, it...
[He's trying hard to hide the disgusted scowl that's formed on his face, but failing at it.]
...seems to enjoy relentlessly biting everything in its general vicinity. And while that's fine for battle, it doesn't do much good when it can't see its opponent and bites its trainer instead. I obtained this monster because I was intrigued by its final stage of evolution, but this is a bit ridiculous.
[He goes to tighten his hand into a fist and immediately regrets that action. Okay yeah, there is no hiding the obvious disdain here.]
If anyone who has owned a Deino has discovered an effective way to get it to listen without taking any sound as a cue to attack, I would appreciate hearing it. That goes for the person who sold me this egg as well.
[This is why you listen to breeders, Rideaux.]

[action]
He's just entered the room, ready to send out Hydra, when he spots the...interesting training methods that one of the grunts seems to be utilizing on-
...wait a minute, isn't that Dr Rideaux? And that's a...
...ah. Oh, this'll be interesting.
Placing his hands in his pockets, Kato wanders over to where the good doctor and his two Pokemon are currently scuffling, not bothering to keep his amusement off his face or out of his voice.]
Having some trouble with the new addition, Doctor?
[As usual, his Lunatone is hovering around his head, peering curiously down at Slasher and his new friend.]
[action]
Just Kato's tone is enough to worsen the scowl on his face, but he does what he can to hide it when he actually faces the other doctor. Both Pokemon momentarily face Kato as well, the Deino immediately trying to struggle against Slasher's grip to go for the latest noise to come up.]
As much as I am loath to admit, yes. This...this thing refuses to listen to a word I say, and only seems to know to bite whatever it senses.
[His gaze briefly flicks to his slightly limp hand as he says that-he really needs to stop to patch that up soon.]
As I'm sure you can tell, it's quite frustrating.
[action]
[Because it's not like he almost lost an arm to his previous one, or anything! Thankfully those scars healed when he went home...they were so terribly unsightly.
Walking closer, Kato retrieves a Pokeball from his pocket, idly tossing it off to the side.]
Perhaps I can help.
[Shockingly enough, it's his Hydreigon that he releases from that Pokeball; it releases a soft, rumbling growl, before trotting obediently over to Kato.]
I've had a bit of experience with this evolutionary line, after all. Hydra here was actually my starter.
[action]
I have to admit that I'm a little surprised- are they normally this calm? Not that I would prefer mindless rampaging to this, but you know.
[In other words, for some reason it doesn't seem as imposing as he thought it would.
...All the while, the Deino continues to struggle against its pinned position. Especially so, because it thinks it senses one of its own kind.]
[action]
[As if to show off just how fantastically obedient he is, Hydra lowers his (main...) head down to the ground and rests it there, continuing with those rumbling growls. All in all, he looks...well, rather docile.]
Don't be fooled, though; I consider him my strongest Pokemon. Well, out of the ones that can't use Explosion, anyway.
[...thanks Kato.]
I find you tend to have to...encourage them to behave.
[And judging by how Rideaux has been treating his Deino, he's definitely on the right track. Ahaha...]
[action]
He gently rubs at his injured hand.]
It is reassuring to know that they can be swayed somewhat. If you don't mind my asking, what sort of training methods did you use on him?
[Please tell him you at least had to deal with a bite or two in the process Kato, otherwise he's never going to let himself live this down.]
[action]
...
...we don't talk about the arm thing.]
Nothing too groundbreaking, although I'd be lying if I said it was the, ah...conventional method.
[Grinning slightly, Kato runs a hand down Hydra's head.]
You're the master and you need to make sure they know that. Do whatever you have to; beat them, scream at them, deprive them of food...I find that last one particularly effective. Although if you're the soft-hearted sort, I'm afraid I have no advice for you.
[...he has a feeling that you're...not exactly a protagonist type, though; put it that way.]
[action]
Oh, so in other words, my usual methods will work just fine on this one. Believe me, Doctor, I always make sure my subordinates know their place. Let's just hope any one of those methods gets through this one's thick skull.
[He glances down at his Pokemon as he says that. Judging by the look of unease Slasher just displayed, what he said about subordinates knowing their place is definitely true.]
Do we truly have any of the soft-hearted sort here, anyway? I know there are some unwilling members, but we all ended up here for a reason, didn't we?
[action]
[Okay, the sigh of relief both amuses Kato and immediately endears Rideaux to him; for a minute there, he was worried you might find what he's saying to be distasteful! Thank goodness there are other logical people around here.
...they're probably slightly less terrible people, but who cares~]
As for your question, I like to think so. The vast majority of people in Team Rocket do tend to think along the same lines as us, although there are admittedly exceptions. They tend to get their just desserts if they choose to rebel, however.
[Like that idiot Ren. That was such a fun week...]
If you do interact with any misguided members who are being openly disloyal, or expressing unwelcome thoughts about our organization, don't be afraid to report them to me. If I can't deal with them, Dist - my partner - will. He's a Division Head, which is the equivalent of a Beta.
Neither of us tolerate insubordination.
[video]
[For a man who should be apologizing, he doesn't seem that sorry.]
I've found that hatching while surrounded by Pokémon thirty levels stronger can convince young Deinos to restrain their impulses temporarily, but it's not exactly a situation you'd want to find yourself in.
[video]
[No you shouldn't Cecil, he's just ridiculous.]
It's a bit late for that, since it's already hatched. The majority of my team is at or is nearing level one-hundred however, and I've had to use my highest-leveled to restrain it multiple times. Surely there has to be a more permanent solution other than knocking it out or returning it to its ball?
[video]
[At least this time he doesn't have to apologize for whatever the child got from its father, too.]
...Chew toys. Flavored chew toys. Many, many flavored chew toys, perhaps. They could distract Dora for some time, even before she learned to use her habits to help her teammates instead of harming them.
[video]
While I dislike the idea of it seeming as though I'm rewarding it for its tendencies, that does seem like a viable distraction tactic.
That said, it's a little reassuring that they are actually capable of learning. My priority is getting this one to battle correctly, after all.
[video]
[Think of a little Deino with the Fire/Ice/Thunder Fang trio, Rideaux, and be thankful.]
I can assure you that battling will not be much of an problem, barring personality issues. Aiming is tricky for them at first, but they improve over time.
[video]
I would sure hope so, otherwise I would question why trainers bother with this species in the first place.
[He's going to leave out the part about him being interested in the species saying something as well. Because he can't ever look bad, clearly.]
But I suppose I can begin with the chew toys for the time being...if it keeps it away from my body, it will be worth the extra money spent on something generally frivolous.
[That said...]
You've brought up its mother several times, what is she like now?
[video]
Ah, Dora is-
[Dora is now shoving her trainer out of the way and staring at the foolish human who dares think he's worthy of one of her babies.
And staring some more.
And not blinking at all.
And judging so very much.]
[video]
[Rideaux moves the 'Gear a little further away from his face. Nothing like having a helldragon staring you down...]
It's interesting, you give off a completely different vibe from the Hydreigon I came across earlier. I'm actually getting a sense of intensity from you. It's good.
[Totally the proper reaction to this situation.]
[video]
See, no one in this world is worthy of her perfect children. Fact of life. And yet this man sounds almost suitably appreciate of her species' natural qualities. What to do?
...Grinning at him with all of her very sharp teeth will have to do.]
Intense is a good word to describe her. But she still works very well with her teammates.
[Cecil doesn't bother getting back into the frame. He knows better.]
[video]
Intense, and...charming, it seems.
[Right, we'll stick with charming.]
But I do like to hear about good teamwork. I'd like to hope that her offspring will follow in her footsteps, because I value quality teamwork.
[video]
[Then again, if Cecil's Pokémon can stand to work with a creature that grins like Dora, Rideaux's should be fine with the baby. Or so Cecil hopes.]
video;
[ monkey see monkey do, without the seeing. ]
video;
That could possibly work, though I'm afraid I don't have much experience with organizing...playdates.
[He doesn't like how this sounds like he's trying to find a friend for an unruly child. This is a creature.]
video;
[ Since a lot of people aren't. ]
video;
[This man is incapable of tact, clearly.]
video;
[ most of nanami's classmates aren't capable of tact. she ain't even bothered. ]
[Video]
[A Hydreigon butts its head in over the unimpressed face of the young white haired girl, glaring at the screen as though Rideaux has somehow personally offended it.]
That's how I taught Hydra here. Touch worked well for him. Guiding him around by his nose was a little tedious at first, but it worked out.
[Video]
By touch, how do you mean? Surely not with your own hands.
no subject
[She groans irritably, and well she might. Her pristine white hair is something she's quite proud of.]
no subject
Your hair, truly? Now that is just cruel.
[Seriously, that's way harder to repair than a bite to the skin.]
But a stick, yes. Perhaps a metal pole will work better, as I have a feeling these things could easily bite through wood.
no subject
[Surely even a dragon would not enjoy biting down on a piece of iron or something.]
no subject
[It's sound logic to Rideaux, anyway.]
no subject
no subject
[He was lucky enough to have a timid Deino, but he knows that's not exactly the norm. So, he'll shrug, casting a glance off camera real quick.]
Good news is, once it's a Hydreigon, it'll stop being blind altogether. You just gotta be patient.
no subject
[The rest of Rideaux's team has kinda learned not to mess with him by now.]
Though I'd really like to have some sort of temporary workaround for this until it is able to see.
no subject
[But hmm, temporary workarounds. He pauses for a moment, tapping his chin.]
Ever thought about having one of your Pokémon guide it around? Could always give it treats whenever it's not acting up or cover the floor with pillows, I guess.
no subject
[How could this kid even want to keep a cowardly dragon around? It boggles Rideaux's mind.]
I did receive a suggestion about the treats already, yes. I'm still a bit reluctant to resort to that, but at least your wording for it makes a bit of sense. I don't want to reward it just to calm it down for a moment or two, you know?
I hadn't thought of enlisting a guide, no. I could only see that working if the "guiding" doesn't devolve into mindless chasing around. I'll have to see if any of my other monsters click with this one. Perhaps I have one it can actually understand.
no subject
[Or it could be a matter of nature against nurture. If people use aggression to keep them in line, why wouldn't they go nuts?
He doesn't voice that opinion for now, but it's definitely crossed his mind.]
But I think as long as you keep consistent with the rewards, it'll help sooner or later. I think most Pokémon understand each other, but if you wanted to play it safe, you could always grab another dragon type.
no subject
[He did shop around for one at some point, but ended up with Deino. Maybe this kid knows about some others?
...Preferably ones that don't end up docile though.]
I'm still rather new to this world- would you happen to have any recommendations?
no subject
[Granted, none of the dragon types he's encountered have been larger than a building, but it never hurts to ask. It's easier to toss out recommendations if he's got a starting point.]
video;
video;
[He didn't actually know there are more blind Pokemon out there so this actually might be helpful.]
video;
video;
What species is Eliza?
video;
Might want ta get a psychic type, 'tho. Imagine that would be a fair bit easier.
